Dubrovnik Airport - All Information on Dubrovnik Airport (DBV)

Dubrovnik Airport, commonly known as Cilipi Airport, is the international Airport that serves the city of Dubrovnik, which is located in Croatia. The Airport's official name is Zrana Luka Dubrovnik, and its IATA code is DBV.

The distance between the Airport and the city center of Dubrovnik is roughly 19 kilometers.

Regarding the number of passengers who pass through it daily, it is third only to Zagreb Airport and Split Airport, among the busiest airports in Croatia. In addition, it boasts the longest runway in the country, enabling it to service large, long-range aircraft.

During the European summer vacation season, the Airport is a prominent destination for flights that are taken for leisure purposes.

History of Dubrovnik Airport

In 1936, the first route to Dubrovnik was established by the Yugoslav flag carrier Aeroput, which used a seaplane base in the city. Through Sarajevo, it connected the city of Dubrovnik to Belgrade, the country's capital. The year after, a route to Zagreb was made available to the public.

However, the year 1938 was the year that saw a significant increase in the amount of air traffic that passed through Dubrovnik. This was the year Aeroput began operating regular flights to Vienna, Brno, and Prague, with stops in Sarajevo and Zagreb. Additionally, this was the year Belgrade and Tirana began operating regular flights with a stop in Dubrovnik.

Gruda Airfield, which didn't operate outside of the summer months and didn't open to the public until 1936, when commercial flights began, was the first Airport to provide service to the city. The operations of Aeroput were halted because of World War II at the beginning of the 1940s.

The modern Dubrovnik Airport first opened its doors in the year 1962. The old terminal was torn down to make room for constructing a new, more up-to-date structure. In its place, a brand-new terminal has been built. Today, Dubrovnik is home to the most cutting-edge passenger terminal the rest of the country has to offer.

The total cost of the undertaking is estimated to be seventy million euros, and it is planned for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to provide the funding in the form of a loan. The new terminal, over 13,700 square meters, was inaugurated in May of 2010.

At Dubrovnik Airport, the terminals are labeled with the letters A, B, and C, respectively.

In February 2017, an expansive new terminal known as Terminal C was constructed. In April of that same year, it completely replaced Terminal A as the location where all passenger departures, including check-in and security check, took place.

In addition, it has sixteen gates, of which only two will be utilized for local flights. At the same time, the other fourteen will be used for foreign services. The Airport now can handle 3.5 million passengers annually thanks to its expansion to 24,181 square meters in space.

The Terminal A building has been permanently converted into a baggage sorting facility, and passengers are no longer permitted to enter or exit the building anytime.

The newly constructed Terminal C may be adjacent to the current Terminal B structure, which is responsible for greeting arriving passengers. The two components have been merged into a single fully-operational apparatus.

Long-term plans for the airport call for constructing a new runway and transforming the present runway into a taxiway. Plans for the future of the Airport include an expansive commercial zone and a four-star airport hotel.

The Airport, Dubrovnik Old Town, and the Dubrovnik Bus Station in Gru are all connected to one another by a shuttle bus run by the business Platanus.
